The Hunger Games: A Comprehensive Guide to the Dystopian Franchise

The Novels

The Hunger Games is a series of young adult dystopian novels written by American author Suzanne Collins. The series consists of a trilogy that follows Katniss Everdeen, a 16-year-old girl who volunteers to take her younger sister's place in the annual Hunger Games, a televised battle to the death.

The Films

The Hunger Games is also a media franchise centering on a series of science fiction dystopian adventure films based on the novel series of the same name by Suzanne Collins. The films star Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen, Josh Hutcherson as Peeta Mellark, and Liam Hemsworth as Gale Hawthorne.

The Hunger Games (2012)

In the first film, Katniss Everdeen voluntarily takes her younger sister's place in the Hunger Games. She is joined by Peeta Mellark, a baker's son who is also chosen as a tribute from their district. Together, they must fight for survival in the arena.

Catching Fire (2013)

In the second film, Katniss and Peeta return to their home district after winning the Hunger Games. However, they soon find themselves caught up in a rebellion against the Capitol. They must use their skills and resources to help the rebellion succeed.

Mockingjay – Part 1 (2014)

In the third film, Katniss becomes the Mockingjay, the symbol of the rebellion. She must use her influence to unite the rebels and bring down the Capitol.

Mockingjay – Part 2 (2015)

In the fourth and final film, Katniss and the rebels launch an attack on the Capitol. The film follows Katniss's journey as she discovers the true nature of the rebellion and the sacrifices that must be made to achieve freedom.
